Here are the most important ones to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Castles not to miss<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Melfi<\/strong>: the Norman-Swabian castle where Frederick II issued the Constitutions of Melfi in 1231; today it houses the National Archaeological Museum of the Melfese<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Lagopesole<\/strong> (Avigliano): the last great castle built for Frederick II, on a hill overlooking the valley<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Venosa<\/strong>: the 15th-century Pirro del Balzo castle, home of the National Archaeological Museum<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Miglionico<\/strong>: the Castle of Malconsiglio, where the rebel barons met against King Ferrante of Aragon in 1485<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Valsinni<\/strong>: the castle linked to the poet Isabella Morra, who lived and was killed here in the 16th century<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Muro Lucano<\/strong>: the castle where Queen Joanna I of Anjou died in 1382<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Brienza<\/strong>: the Caracciolo castle, an imposing ruin above the village<\/li>\n\n\n<li><strong>Pietrapertosa<\/strong>: the fortress built on the rock, in the heart of
