About this place

The Bottini are an ancient underground aqueduct in Irsina: narrow tunnels carved into the rock, outside the town walls, that follow the water table and collect water from the springs.

What to see

• The tunnels, narrow and low, which are explored on foot with a guide.
• The monumental fountain from the 18th century, with several spouts, fed by water from the Bottini.
• The landscape around the town, along the walks outside the walls.

Useful information

• The Bottini can only be visited on guided tours run by local associations, such as CTG Plusos (320 060 8999) and the Arenacea cooperative (335 649 4861).
• The tunnels are narrow: wear comfortable shoes and bring a torch; they are not suitable for people who suffer from claustrophobia.
• In the historic centre you will find the Cathedral and the Janora Civic Museum.
