The Mother Church of Santa Maria Maggiore is the main church of Grottole. It stands next to the former convent of the Dominican friars.
What to see
• The wooden altars, the choir loft and the 18th-century choir.
• The Madonna with Child, considered one of the finest sculptures of the Lucanian school in the area.

• It is a church open for worship, so visit quietly and outside of services.
• In the town, the church of San Rocco is also worth a visit. It has a 17th-century polyptych by Pietro Antonio Ferro dedicated to the works of mercy, and the procession of the patron saint sets off from here on 16 August.
• A few steps away are the Chiesa Diruta and the Sichinulfo Castle.
