About this place

The historic village of Valsinni clings to a rocky spur overlooking the gorge of the Sinni river. At the top stands the Isabella Morra castle, where the 16th-century poet Isabella Morra lived and died.

What to see

• The narrow lanes and staircases that climb towards the castle.
• The «gafi» (covered passageways that link houses and small streets).
• The Mother Church of Santa Maria Assunta, along the climb to the castle.
• The Palazzo Mauri mill, with its large stone millstones that recall the village’s tradition of millers.
• The views over the Sinni valley and monte Coppolo.

The village and Isabella Morra

In summer the Isabella Morra Literary Park takes visitors through the village alleys with readings, performances and theatrical tours following in the footsteps of the poet.

Useful information

• The village is explored on foot: there are slopes and steps, so comfortable shoes are best.
• Cars should be left in the lower part of the village.
