Discover Collina Materana
The Collina Materana is the inland heart of the province of Matera: a landscape of clay hills, badlands and woods between the Agri, Sauro, Cavone and Salandrella valleys, dotted with villages perched on the heights.
Here you’ll find some of Basilicata’s most striking places: Aliano, Carlo Levi’s village overlooking the badlands; Craco, the ghost town; Stigliano, the highest village in the province; Accettura, with its Maggio tree ritual and the woods of the Gallipoli Cognato and Lucanian Dolomites Park; and then San Mauro Forte with its Norman tower, and Gorgoglione and Cirigliano, small villages among woods and springs.
It is a land to explore slowly, with ancient traditions, folk festivals, country cooking and silences that stay with you.
