About this place

Essenza Lucano is the museum of Amaro Lucano, opened in December 2019 inside the historic plant in Pisticci Scalo, in the area of Pisticci. It tells the story of one of Italy’s most famous liqueurs and of the Vena family, who have produced it for over a century.

History

Amaro Lucano was born in Pisticci in 1894 from the recipe of Pasquale Vena. Today the company is run by the fourth generation of the family and exports to more than thirty countries.

What to see

• The multisensory route through the history of the company, the Vena family and Basilicata.
• The herbs and essential oils to sniff, to discover the ingredients of the amaro.
• The botanical garden and the bar, where you can taste the products and cocktails.
• The shop, with limited editions and the full Lucano range.

How to visit

The museum is in Pisticci Scalo, in the Basento valley, along the road that runs from Matera and Metaponto towards the interior. Guided visits, including tastings, can be booked on the website essenzalucano.it.

Useful information

• The staff are very friendly, and the visits are enjoyed even by those who don’t drink alcohol.
• From the museum it takes just a few minutes to reach the centre of Pisticci and the rione Dirupo.
