About this place
The Mother Church of San Nicola di Bari is the main church of Colobraro, in the upper part of the village, below the castle.
History
The church dates back to the 17th century and is dedicated to the village’s patron saint, San Nicola, celebrated on 9 May. Next to it stands the small cappella dell’Icona (Chapel of the Icon), built in the 14th century and restored at the end of the 18th century.
What to see
• The large pointed-arch windows of the façade.
• The three-aisled interior, with marble and wooden altars.
• The cappella dell’Icona, next to the church.
In the surroundings
Just outside the village is the cappella di Santa Maria di Cironofrio, now dedicated to Santa Maria della Neve: it is linked to the ancient Basilian monastery around which Colobraro grew.
Useful information
• It is a church open for worship: visitors should come quietly, outside of services.
