Valsinni

Isabella Morra's village, an Orange Flag town

Discover Valsinni

Valsinni, called Favale until 1873, stands on a rocky spur above the Sinni valley and has been awarded the Touring Club Italiano’s Orange Flag. The car-free old village is a tangle of tightly packed houses and steep lanes, linked by «gafi», covered stone passages that run beneath the houses.

At the top stands the castle where the poet Isabella Morra lived and died very young in the 16th century: her verses and tragic story are remembered every year with events and literary walks. The site may also be that of the ancient Greek town of Lagaria.
