Acerenza

A Romanesque cathedral in one of Italy's most beautiful villages

Discover Acerenza

Acerenza stands at over 800 metres on a steep-sided plateau between the Bradano and Fiumarella rivers, a strategic position that made it an important centre for centuries. It is one of «The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy».

Its landmark is the Romanesque cathedral, consecrated in 1080, one of the most important in the region, with a large apse and ambulatory and a 16th-century crypt frescoed by Giovanni Todisco. The old town keeps 17th- and 18th-century palaces. At the table, try the «lagana chiapputa», the village’s signature pasta dish.
