Baragiano

Ancient walls and noble houses in the Marmo Platano area

Discover Baragiano

Baragiano stands at about 625 metres in the north-west of the province of Potenza, in the Marmo Platano area, and is split between the old town on the hill and the newer settlement below. Its ancient origins are shown by finds at Braida and remains of walls from the 6th–5th centuries BC.

In the old town, look out for the portals of noble families such as Palazzo Iura and Palazzo Venetucci; at the top stand the ruins of the old castle, once one of the most important in the area, and the church of Santa Maria Assunta.
