Calciano

A small hill village, a «city of honey»

Discover Calciano

Calciano is a small hill village at about 425 metres in the north-west of the province of Matera, on the edge of the Gallipoli Cognato Park. It belongs to the Italian association of «Cities of Honey», thanks to a long beekeeping tradition.

Sights include the Norman-era church of the Rocca and the mother church of San Giovanni Battista, which holds the frescoes brought from the Rocca. In September the village celebrates San Rocco and the Madonna della Serra with processions of votive «ceri» made of candles.
