Filiano

Rock paintings, woods and pecorino cheese

Discover Filiano

Filiano is a young municipality, created in 1951 when thirty hamlets split off from Avigliano, in northern Basilicata. Its territory is rich in woodland and known for Pecorino di Filiano PDO cheese.

At Càrpini there is a rock shelter with prehistoric paintings, discovered in 1965. Near the hamlet of Scalera, in the Agromonte Spacciaboschi Anthropological Nature Reserve, lie the ruins of the medieval settlement of Acermontis.
