Forenza

Ancient Forentum and the Templar pageant

Discover Forenza

Forenza stands at about 840 metres in the upper Bradano valley, in northern Basilicata. Its name recalls Forentum, the ancient town mentioned by Horace, Livy and Pliny the Elder.

Sights include the 17th-century convent of the Santissimo Crocifisso, with 16th-century canvases and a 14th-century painting of Santa Maria della Stella, the church of San Nicola and the ruins of 12th-century Santa Maria dell’Armenia. In August the village comes alive with the Palio of the 7 districts and the historical Templar pageant.
