Marsicovetere is made up of its old town, on a height inside the Appennino Lucano Val d’Agri Lagonegrese National Park, and of larger hamlets below, such as Villa d’Agri, the valley’s shopping and services centre. The area has been inhabited since pre-Roman times.

In the old village, visit the mother church of Saints Peter and Paul, completed in 1639 in Neapolitan Baroque style. From the height there are wide views over the upper Agri valley and Monte Volturino, with its ski slopes.
