Missanello is a small village at about 600 metres in the middle Agri valley, bordering Aliano, Gallicchio and Roccanova. It is mentioned as early as 968 in the life of Saint Vitalis, a Basilian abbot.

In the village you can see the mother church of San Nicola (1578), the church of the Madonna delle Grazie, the remains of the castle recorded in 1154 by the Arab geographer Idrisi, the clock tower and some noble houses. The village looks out over the Agri valley.
