Nemoli lies in the southernmost part of the province of Potenza, in the middle of the Noce valley among the Lucanian Apennines. It is known for its traditional woodwork and copperware. Its territory includes Lake Sirino, surrounded by greenery at the foot of the Sirino massif.

The 17th-century church of Santa Maria delle Grazie holds a 14th-century Byzantine-style polychrome Madonna, a holy-water stoup from 1512 and a bell from 1373. The village has a lively musical tradition rooted in the tarantella.
