Oliveto Lucano

Among the olive groves of the Gallipoli Cognato Park

Discover Oliveto Lucano

Oliveto Lucano is a small village at about 550 metres on a hill surrounded by olive groves, inside the Gallipoli Cognato and Lucanian Dolomites Regional Park, at the foot of Monte Croccia. On the mountain lie the remains of an ancient fortified Lucanian town from the 6th–4th centuries BC.

Along Via delle Grotte you’ll notice the «doors of Bacchus», wooden cellar doors decorated with geometric patterns. As in other villages nearby, the Maggio tree ritual is celebrated in May as part of the feast of the patron saint San Cipriano.
