A Norman village near Potenza

Discover Picerno

Picerno stands a few kilometres from Potenza, along the Platano valley. It was founded around the year 1000 on the ruins of ancient Acerronia, as a small walled Norman fortress.

The village has many churches, from the mother church of San Nicola to the Capuchin convent, and historic palaces such as Palazzo Calenda. Don’t miss the Museum of Traditional Costume. On 10 May Picerno remembers the 1799 massacre, when its people resisted the Sanfedist troops.
