Pisticci

The Dirupo quarter and a territory reaching the sea

Discover Pisticci

Pisticci stands at about 360 metres in the south-central part of the province of Matera and has one of the largest municipal territories in Italy, reaching the Ionian Sea at Marina di Pisticci. The town is surrounded by badlands and famous for its Dirupo quarter, with rows of small white houses with pitched roofs built after the 1688 landslide.

The mother church of Saints Peter and Paul keeps its 13th-century bell tower. The territory also includes the abbey of Santa Maria del Casale and the village of Marconia; in August the feast of San Rocco is the most heartfelt event.
