Policoro

Sea, Magna Graecia and the Pantano wood

Discover Policoro

Policoro lies on the Metaponto plain, between the mouths of the Agri and Sinni rivers, and is the largest town on the Lucanian Ionian coast. The Greek colonies of Siris and Herakleia stood here, as told by the National Archaeological Museum of the Siritide and the nearby archaeological park.

Along the coast stretches the Bosco Pantano, a nature reserve with remnants of lowland forest and a sea turtle rescue centre. Sandy beaches, a marina and citrus groves make Policoro a handy base for summer and for exploring the hinterland.
