Rotondella

The balcony over the Ionian Sea

Discover Rotondella

Rotondella is known as «the balcony of the Ionian»: from its hill, at about 580 metres, you can take in the whole Gulf of Taranto from Apulia to Calabria. The area was inhabited from Neolithic times, under the influence of the Greek colonies of Siris and Herakleia.

In the village you can visit the mother church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Franciscan convent of Sant’Antonio, built in 1652, with a fine polychrome marble altar. Local legends include the «Monachella», a mischievous little spirit who hides things around the house.
