Discover Ruoti

Ruoti stands on a height overlooking the Avigliano stream, in the Marmo Platano area. An ancient Oscan stronghold, fortified by the Romans and later by the Lombards, it became an important castle.

The village keeps churches and chapels such as that of San Rocco, built during the plague of 1651. Ruoti is one of the few places where women still wear «lu custum», the traditional Lucanian dress with pleated white blouse and colourful skirts.
