San Fele

Waterfalls and a castle in the Vulture area

Discover San Fele

San Fele stands at about 870 metres, perched between Monte Castello and Monte Torretta in north-western Basilicata. Its castle, built according to tradition in Ottonian times, was where two of Frederick II’s sons were held prisoner.

Nearby are the San Fele waterfalls, a series of cascades in the woods reached by a trail. The village is the birthplace of Saint Justin de Jacobis, celebrated on 31 July; on 15 August the Madonna di Pierno is honoured at the mountain sanctuary.
