Sarconi

The «little Mesopotamia» of the PGI bean

Discover Sarconi

Sarconi is called the «little Mesopotamia» of the Agri valley because it stands, at about 640 metres, on a strip of land between the Maglia and Sciaura rivers. It is famous for the Fagiolo di Sarconi PGI, a bean grown in dozens of varieties and celebrated every summer with a festival.

Linked in ancient times to the Roman colony of Grumentum, it keeps the 15th-century chapel of Santa Lucia, the feudal castle, the Cavour aqueduct and old water mills, the Maglia river park and an ethnographic museum.
