Terranova di Pollino

In the heart of the Pollino, home of the «pita» festival

Discover Terranova di Pollino

Terranova di Pollino lies in the heart of the Pollino National Park, on the border with Calabria, surrounded by mountains, beech forests and Bosnian pine woods. Founded in the 16th century as a fief of the State of Noja, it is a starting point for hikes to the highest peaks of the massif.

The church of San Francesco da Paola keeps the Bosnian pine door of the original church. On 13 June, for Saint Anthony, the «pita» festival is held: a large fir is cut in the mountains and hauled to the village by oxen and then by hand.
