Discover Tramutola

Tramutola lies in the upper Agri valley, in a gorge full of springs: its name is said to come from «terra motola», a land rich in water. Oil seeped to the surface here as early as the 19th century, and between 1936 and 1943 some of the valley’s first wells were drilled.

The most heartfelt feast is that of the Madonna dei Miracoli in May, with a procession and fair. In autumn the village fills up for the «munnaredda» chestnut festival, awarded the UNPLI «quality festival» label.

Chestnut woods, trails and nearby Marsico Nuovo and Viggiano make Tramutola a good stop when exploring the valley.
