Tursi

The Rabatana and the Anglona sanctuary

Discover Tursi

Tursi spreads over hills between the Agri and Sinni rivers and grew from the 5th century around a castle. Its oldest quarter is the Rabatana, of Arab origin, perched on a sandstone spur among ravines and badlands: this is where the poet Albino Pierro lived, writing in the Tursi dialect.

In its territory stands the sanctuary of Santa Maria di Anglona, an old Romanesque cathedral alone on a hill, on the site of ancient Pandosia. The feast of the Madonna di Anglona on 8 September is the town’s most heartfelt celebration.
