Vietri di Potenza is called the «gateway to Lucania» for its position, the first you reach when arriving from Salerno. The village spreads over several heights on top of a hill and is one of the «Cities of Oil».

In the centre you’ll find the clock tower on Piazza del Popolo, the Palazzo dei Briganti, Palazzo Taglianetti-Capuano, the fountain and wash-house and the mother church of San Nicola di Mira, with a Madonna and Child by Paolo de Matteis. Its cooking is country fare, with recipes handed down in popular memory.
