Cirigliano is one of the smallest municipalities in Basilicata: it stands at about 650 metres in the central-western part of the province of Matera, in mountain country rich in tall forests and springs, such as the Furr spring.

The old town, set between the mother church and the baronial castle, is a tangle of narrow lanes, arched houses and old palaces such as Palazzo Fanelli. Nearby are the ruins of three water mills: a peaceful place for anyone looking for nature and quiet.
