Discover Alto Bradano
The Alto Bradano is the land of rolling wheat hills north-east of Potenza, on the border with Apulia, with wide horizons that change colour with every season.
Acerenza, perched on a spur, has one of southern Italy’s most important Romanesque cathedrals and a diocesan museum, Pietragalla the Palmenti park, a village of caves dug for pressing grapes, Cancellara its castle. Banzi has the abbey of Santa Maria and the memory of Horace, Genzano di Lucania the Cavallina fountain and its lakes, Palazzo San Gervasio the d’Errico art gallery, Oppido Lucano its castle, Tolve the sanctuary of San Rocco, a pilgrimage destination, while Forenza and San Chirico Nuovo have their old towns.
It is an area to explore slowly, perhaps by bike, among villages, views and wheat products.
