Discover Maratea e la Valle del Noce
Maratea is Basilicata’s only outlet on the Tyrrhenian Sea: some thirty kilometres of rocky coast with coves, caves and dark sand beaches, watched over by the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Monte San Biagio. The village, with its many churches, harbour and hamlets of Acquafredda, Fiumicello and Marina, is one of the most elegant destinations in southern Italy.
Behind it opens the green, mountainous valley of the Noce river. Trecchina has a large tree-lined square and the sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso, Rivello is a stone village split between Latin and Greek traditions, with the convent of Sant’Antonio. Nemoli overlooks Lake Sirino, and Lagonegro is the gateway to Mount Sirino and its ski slopes.
In a few dozen kilometres you go from sea to mountains: in summer for the sea and the trails, in winter for the snow on the Sirino.
