Discover Marmo Platano e Melandro
The Marmo Platano and Melandro are the valleys of north-western Basilicata, on the border with Campania: wooded mountains, streams and stone villages, little visited by tourists and authentic for that very reason.
Muro Lucano sits above a gorge with its castle, cathedral and Roman bridge, Castelgrande hosts an astronomical observatory, Pescopagano and Bella have compact old towns. In the Melandro, Satriano di Lucania is the village of murals and of the Rumita, the tree-mask of its carnival, Sant’Angelo Le Fratte and Savoia di Lucania also have murals and well-kept villages, Brienza the Caracciolo castle and Sasso di Castalda the Ponte alla Luna, a Tibetan bridge hanging over the woods. Balvano, Baragiano and Vietri di Potenza complete the area.
It is a land for lovers of mountain villages, hikes and village festivals.
