Metapontino e Costa Jonica

Beaches, Magna Graecia and the badlands of the Ionian coast

Discover Metapontino e Costa Jonica

The Lucanian Ionian coast is one long sandy beach, about 35 kilometres between the mouths of the Bradano and the Sinni, with pine woods, beach clubs and shallow water ideal for families. Behind it lies the Metapontino plain, covered in orchards and citrus groves, and then the clay hills with their badlands.

This was Magna Graecia: at Metaponto, part of Bernalda, you can visit the Tavole Palatine and the archaeological park with the temple of Hera, and at Policoro the Museo della Siritide and the remains of Heraclea. Inland, Pisticci has the Dirupo district with its rows of white houses, Tursi the Rabatana of Arab origin and the Anglona sanctuary, Montalbano Jonico its badlands reserve, Rotondella a balcony over the Ionian Sea, Colobraro its legends and Nova Siri a castle and the sea.

It is the ideal area for summer, but also for spring and autumn, between archaeology, villages and local produce.
